Year 4

Bonnie Slater      &     Michael Holland
Welcome to Year 4!

In year 4 we have started the summer term with lots of energy and enthusiasm, ready for an exciting new term of learning. In English, we are learning how to punctuate speech correctly and extend our sentences using conjunctions and contrasting conjunctions. We are going to be writing in different genres and extending children's writing skills by bringing their ideas to life in exciting ways; this term we are basing our English work on ‘The Lion and The Unicorn’ by Shirley Hughes. We have been using Comprehension Ninja all year to help the children with their reading comprehension and will continue this in the summer term. In maths, we have been learning about fractions and decimals. We have been practicing every day for our times table test which will be later this term.

Our whole school focus this term is 'London and Beyond' and we will be learning all about London, from the people that live here to world famous landmarks and amazing historical figures in our wonderful city.  In PE, we are working on our athletics skills with Moving Matters and we will also be going swimming this term (on Friday afternoons) which we are extremely excited about! (PE Days are both Thursday and Friday 4S and 4HW). Our topic in science this term is electricity.

We continue to have music lessons once every two weeks with Lambeth Music Service, as well as weekly visits to the school library and various after school clubs and musical instrument lessons which many of our children take part in.

There is homework set every Friday on Google Classroom, click here to log in, which will reflect or support the learning we have been doing in class. There is also an expectation that the children do TTRockstars and MyOn reading for 30 minutes every week. Please make sure you access these websites online regularly.

We are so excited to see what this term brings! We are looking forward to a celebratory King’s Coronation picnic, Sports Day, The Great Get Together, swimming on Fridays, our next class trip and lots of other stimulating and fun opportunities.
