Year 3

Fiona Buchan        &        Sarah Edwards

Welcome to Year 3!

In year 3 we have started summer term with enthusiasm and excitement and have already enjoyed class trips to the Garden Museum!

In English, we are basing our work around the stories of The Pied Piper of Hamelin by Michael Morpurgo and Emma Chichester Clark and Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit. The children will be writing in a range of contexts including writing in role, writing adverts, formal letters, newspaper reports as well as writing our own versions of a myth or legend.

In maths, we have been practising the addition and subtraction of fractions. Our future topics include money and time. We also continue to work on our times tables daily. We thoroughly enjoyed last term’s focus on our sustainable development goal of ‘Zero Hunger’, children were given the opportunity to design and bake their own muffins and pitch their healthy and nutritious recipes in a KS2 assembly. The children took great pride in presenting their work in the STEAM exhibition at the end of the term. We now move on to our new topic ‘London and Beyond’. Children will be learning about the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain in History lessons and in Geography children will learn to explore, describe and understand key aspects of physical geography, including: mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes.

Last term we worked on our gymnastic skills in the Benchmark Gymnastics sessions. We look forward to developing our athletics skills with Moving Matters this term as well as cricket in our indoor P.E. lessons. 3B will have P.E on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 3E will have P.E. on Mondays and Thursdays.

We will continue to do music lessons with Lambeth Music Service once a week, enjoy weekly visits to the library and various after school clubs and musical instrument lessons which many of our children take part in. There is maths homework set every Friday on google classroom and we encourage children to login regularly to TTRS to practise their times tables as well as Accelerated Reader to access a wide range of reading books at home. This term we are looking forward to a celebratory King’s Coronation picnic, Sports Day, The Great Get Together and lots of other stimulating and fun opportunities.
