Welcome to Reception!

Our Summer Term has got off to a good start with learning all about pets and how to take care of them, we have started reading the Hairy Maclary collection of books by Lynley Dodd, we will be also reading the Night Pirates by Peter Harris and taking the pirate theme outside into our wonderful outside classroom.

We are now in Phase 4 of our phonics learning which is revision of all the digraphs and trigraphs and reading longer words.  Children are starting to write their own simple sentences in writing books now, in preparation for moving up to Year 1.

In Maths we are continuing to really master the basics of numbers to 20, we are learning to count beyond 20, and add and subtract numbers within 10.

We are encouraging the children to be independent in their creativity, we would really appreciate any donations for our junk modelling area, such as empty plastic bottles, small boxes and kitchen roll tubes.

P.E days are Tuesday for RVW and Friday for RS.  Please provide the school P.E kit in house colours as they will be wearing these on Sports Day.

We visit the library every Thursday so children will borrow  book of their choice (this is for pleasure, it is not a levelled reading book so please share this book with your child)  and eCollins books are assigned every Friday, these books are selected based on your child’s reading ability and it is really important that they get to read these at home.  All  eCollins passwords and log in details are in your child’s reading records, please speak to one of us if you are having trouble accessing!

There are some really exciting days this term – we are celebrating the King’s Coronation with a picnic, we are looking forward to seeing you all at Sports Day and at the Great Get Together.

The Farm Trip will be happening in Summer term too, details of this to follow.
