Welcome to Nursery!

In Nursery we have started our summer term welcoming many new children into our class. We are very excited to have so many new friends and look forward to getting to know everyone! We will be supporting our new children to settle into class, as well as aiding all of our children with forming new friendships through the use of social stories, modeling, circle time and role playing.

In phonics this term we will be continuing our learning on alliteration and rhyming, consolidating our knowledge from last term. We will then be moving onto learning about voice sounds and oral segmenting and blending . In Literacy we will be continuing to support the children with exploring their mark making skills and extending their writing. Practicing drawing different pictures and mark making words related to our core texts. We will continue to learn about the structure of stories and retelling stories in our own words. Our core texts for the summer term are: ‘The Lion Inside’ by Rachel Bright, ‘Gigantosaurus’ by Jonny Duddle, ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister and ‘The Grizzly Bear Who Lost His Grrrr’ by Rob Biddulph. In maths we will continue our daily work on counting, number recognition, the exploration of shapes both 2D and 3D, patterns, measuring and spatial awareness.

We will continue linking all of our wider learning to our core texts to fully immerse ourselves in the topics. Exploring bravery and things that scare us when reading ‘The Lion Inside’, as well as learning about the African Savannah and the animals that live there. We will delve into the past when reading ‘Gigantosaurus’. Learning interesting facts about different dinosaurs and how to make our very own volcano. When reading ‘The Rainbow Fish’ we will explore the ocean and sea life. We will also look closely at sharing, being kind to others and conflict resolution. When reading the story ‘The Grizzly Bear Who Lost his Grrrr’ we will be exploring ways to make new friends as well as learning about the woods and woodland creatures.

Nursery does not have set PE days but we will continue to do different dance, yoga and exercise videos together in class based on the children’s interests. We will also be continuing to send home reading books with the children. The children are allowed to change their books as and when they would like to. Please ensure they have a book bag or large enough alternative bag to take the books home in.
