Who’s who at The Hill…

It’s important that you speak to the right person if you need to draw our attention to something, to have something explained or if something has happened that has worried or upset you.

Some of you know all of us very well- but some of you might not know all of us at all. We thought it would be useful for you to be able to put a name to a face as well as having a bit of information about what we do and what we are responsible for.

John Parr- Head Teacher

Nicola Condron- Deputy Head Teacher

Dirk Blom- Acting Deputy Head Teacher

John Parr is the head of the school- he has responsibility for learning, teaching, behaviour, safeguarding, finances, the school site … the list is endless! He is on the school site Monday to Wednesday. He is a certified OFSTED inspector, so uses the time he isn’t in school to inspect other schools across London.

On Thursday and Friday, the school is led by Nicola Condron and Dirk Blom- they have the same authority as John and work closely with him even when he isn’t in school. If you speak to one of them, you are actually speaking to all three of them- you get three for the price of one.

Nicola is responsible for child protection, family learning and attendance.

Dirk is responsible for assessment and behaviour.

Nicola Gentleman- Assistant Head

Irene Martin – Acting Assistant Head

Nicola and Irene lead on the curriculum. They work with subject leaders to make sure that what the children learn is exciting and appropriate. They plan whole school events, like our exhibitions and carnivals, to showcase what our children have learnt each term and to celebrate!

Nicola teaches part time in 2Beck each week.

Irene also is the senior teacher or phase leader who has a special knowledge of the classes and children in Nursery and Reception.

Rosie Smith – SENDCO

We love an acronym in education!

Rosie is the Special needs and disability co-ordinator. She leads on making sure that children who have additional needs get the support that they need. She works with staff in school who provide extra help for children with their learning, with their behaviour or with the way they make friends or feel about themselves. She works with professionals from outside of the school who give support to these children. She also works with Lambeth and other Local authorities if a child has an Education Health Care Plan, making sure that they are getting the support the plan says they need.

Andi Vowers – EALCo

Another acronym!

Andi supports children and families who are learning English as a second language. She makes sure that teachers in class have the resources they need to help children learn English as quickly as possible, working with them to help them plan. She also works with small groups of children throughout the school to support them in the early stages of being able to understand, speak, read and write English.

Michael Holland- Phase Leader- Years 1,2 and 3

Robert Schweier- Phase Leader- Years 4, 5 and 6

Michael and Robert have the same role as Irene in the Early years- they are senior teachers or phase leaders who have a special knowledge of the classes and children in Year1- 3, and Year4- 6. They support teachers in their phases, making sure that children are at the heart of everything that we do. They are the first port of call for parents to talk about a problem or a concern after class teachers have been given the chance to sort something out.

Michael and Robert are class teachers in 2Bailey and 4 Arrow- they have time out of class each week to be phase leaders.

Jacqui Rackham – English Subject Leader (Reading)

Millaine Cornish- English Subject Leader (Writing)

Jacqui and Millaine work together to make sure that Reading and Writing is at the heart of everything we do. They make sure that children are reading and writing at the level they should be, working with Andi and Rosie in organising support for those children who aren’t. They offer training and support to teachers in school, to support staff, and to parents.

Jen Rankin – Maths Subject Leader

Jen is to Maths what Jacqui and Millaine are to English. She makes sure that children are learning maths at the level they should be, working with Andi and Rosie in organising support for those children who aren’t. They offer training and support to teachers in school, to support staff, and to parents.

Jen works full time in 6Rother as their class teacher, but is given time out of class regularly to develop maths throughout the school.

Each subject in the curriculum has a teacher who is responsible for it. They work closely with Irene and Nicola Gentleman to make sure that all of the children are learning about History, Geography, RE, PE, Art and all of the other parts of the curriculum throughout the school in as creative and exciting a way as possible. They help to plan whole school events, like our exhibitions and carnivals, to showcase what our children have learnt each term and to celebrate!
